The second part of the renovation of the Forgotten Cottage transforms the attic into a modern, airy living space with significant glazing and new materials. The design consciously works with the contrast between the historic stone building and contemporary architecture. The result is a sensitive connection of tradition, light and contemporary living.

This is the third time we have worked with Honza and Zuzka, having already completed the Datel café and the first private section of the Forgotten Cottage in Šumava. Now we have to solve the issue of the attic, which they will use partly for their own purposes. However, the most complicated part ahead of us is the one which is meant to serve as accommodation.
Compared to the first renovated part of the cottage, here we are attempting to create a clear contrast to the ancient stone cottage, both through structural elements and the overall interior design.
The cottage, which Zuzka and Honza already live in, is a cozy building with an original stove, casement windows and oak floors. Now we come to the barn, which is directly connected to the cottage, and here completely new ideas for living are emerging. In contrast to the small historicist windows, the design suddenly features large openings through oak portals, which the original barn allows thanks to its openings used purely for farming.
