FORGOTTEN COTTAGE ARNOŠTKA
Area 540 m² • Principal architect Zuzana & Jan Kurz
Our first meeting took place in a huge charming cottage with a long history, which represents a very personal place for the client. They imagine spending a peaceful retirement there and in the meantime planning to use it as a cozy peaceful oasis offering much needed rest from the hustle and bustle of the city and ordinary work duties. Our work on this picturesque cottage lies in rediscovering and highlighting its unique charm, quietly hidden under many layers of time. We started cleaning the cottage which allowed us to restore its original layout. By connecting the large entrance hall with the living room and one other room facing south, we allowed the sunlight coming in through the veranda to reach the other end of one spacious room where a beautiful brick kiln shamelessly presents itself.
The interior is designed exactly as the old cottage requires - clay plaster, rounded corners, oak bench with table, porcelain switches, ceramic lamps, brick tiles, Moroccan stucco or colored windows, so typical of the Šumava region. Together with our clients, we managed to design a sustainable interior full of authentic details. And honestly, who wouldn’t want to work with a client who makes the first meeting more enjoyable by toasting excellent home-made potato pancakes on the original brick oven?
