A simple wooden shelter for livestock on an eco-farm in Velký Jindřichov. With its shingle roof and traditional form, the structure follows local building customs and, within two weeks, provided the animals a safe home in the landscape.

This is a home for our livestock. Shortly after deciding to settle permanently on our farm in the village of Velký Jindřichov, we began reviving local traditions, caring for the landscape, and establishing our own small eco-farm with sheep, cows and horses. Organic farming allows for two types of animal housing: year round pasture grazing or stabling with free access to an outdoor area.
Whenever the climate permits, which in our region it easily does, pasture is the most natural environment for the animals. Yet even animals living outdoors year-round need a place to seek shelter, not only from bad weather. So we designed them a simple refuge, our own version of a stable. It’s a fully wooden structure with a board-shingle roof. Its construction took only two weeks. Whether it snows, rains, or the wind howls across the fields, nothing gets inside.
